Like countless sporting events, the Barkley Marathon will not take place this year. The 2020 edition of one of the toughest races in the world has not been postponed but canceled. Usually, runners have the choice between the 97 km “fun run” or the entire 160 km course, including 18 vertical drop. In this particular race, there is no first aid beacon, and participants have no GPS assistance. Since 2017, no one has managed to cross the finish line. The record is currently held by Brett Maune, who completed the race in 52 hours and 3 minutes in 2012.
