37-year-old man with manjatak hit on the head by 52-year-old

The Surinamese police have arrested a 52-year-old man who hit another man on the head with a manjatak. The victim suffered a crack wound to his forehead and received four stitches, the Suriname Police Corps reports today.

Investigations showed that the suspect Radjender (52) and victim Amiet (37) previously had a violent exchange of words in front of a store. At one point, the suspect scolded the victim. This did not go down well with Amiet, after which he went to the suspect’s home to be held accountable.

There was a further quarrel and Radjender attacked Amiet with a manjatak, which he had cut from a tree. After the act, the suspect threw the branch on a pile of fire. Upon hearing that the victim was going to the police station to report the crime, Radjender decided to report to the police.

Shortly after he had reported to the Uitvlugt bureau, the police proceeded to arrest the suspect. After consultation with the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service, he was detained for serious assault, the police reported.
