ISLAMABAD – Pakistani police said at least 17 passengers were killed when a bus fell into a northern Pakistan gorge.
Officer Abdul Ghafoor said on Sunday that the bus was heading to Rawalpindi from Ghiberti, in Gilgit Baltistan, when it fell into the deep gorge of Kohistan district.
Ghafoor said 17 bodies had been found and that a woman had been slightly injured, adding that lack of communication in the remote area had resulted in delays in relief efforts.
Police suspected that the accident was caused by speed on the slippery road of the mountainous terrain.
Such incidents are common in Pakistan, where motorists often do not follow traffic rules or safety standards.
