A Czech student designed a new design for the iconic Alfa Romeo 155

The task of constructors, designers, engineers and students was to propose a redesign of the iconic Alfa Romeo 155 DTM as an electric car, said Šárka Stará, spokesperson for the University of West Bohemia.

“The Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI is one of the most popular racing cars of all time, winning most of the international championships in the first half of the 1990s,” added the spokesperson.

Between 1992 and 1994, the sedan with Nocola Larini at the wheel managed to dominate the Italian Superturismo Championship and the German DTM Championship, as well as the Spanish Touring Car Championship with Adrian Campos and the British Touring Car Championship with Gabriel Tarquini. The car remained competitive until it was replaced by the 156.

The participants in the competition rework the different design of the car from an aesthetic and mechanical point of view, starting with the replacement of the internal combustion engine with an electric one. Among the students, Jagerčík was first, overall he finished second.

“We progressed from drawing. The most important thing was to draw and determine the proportions of the car properly. Once you have a functional silhouette, you can add other interesting details. We make models from clay, which allows us intuitively create high-quality surfaces and connections and pay attention to the layout of materials. Jan Korabečný, head of the industrial design studio, followed by scanning, modeling in 3D graphic editor and finally creation of photorealistic designs.

In addition to Jagerčík’s model, the work of other students of the faculty – Bao Quoc Tran and Ondřej Adamec – attracted the attention of the jury, which became part of the exhibition at the festival with the theme of electromobility La Panorama in Genoa.

“We enjoyed a lot of interest from designers and investors at the gala evening, and we managed to get several interesting contacts,” said Jagerčík.

The major international competition was organized by the Motors Grouping agency, which supports start-ups in the field of electromobility. The winning models will be exhibited at the faculty premises on November 11 during the open day.
