Newsroom / Xalapa. Breast cancer in women is the leading cause of death from tumors in the country, and obesity is the main modifiable risk factor, said Ricardo Morales, head of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Hospital General de Zona (HGZ) No. 11 Velazquez.

This cancer arises in the cells of the breast, multiplies uncontrollably, and can begin in different parts of the breast.

Morales Velázquez explained that the breasts consist of three main parts: the lobules, which are the glands that produce milk; ducts, tubes that carry milk to the nipple; and the connective tissue, fibrous and fatty tissue that surrounds and supports all parts of the breast.

Symptoms of breast cancer are: feeling a new lump in the breast or armpit (under the arm), thickening or swelling of one part, irritation or sagging of the skin, redness or peeling in the area of ​​the nipple or breast. breast, nipple sagging or pain in that area, and nipple discharge.

Treatment for this disease depends on the type of breast cancer in question and its progression; Different treatments can be used, such as surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy.

The specialist pointed out that the best way to prevent breast cancer is to eat a healthy and balanced diet, high in fiber, avoid a high consumption of sugars, fats and exercise at least 30

minutes a day; before any symptoms, you should go to your family doctor for a check-up.
