A young Afghan supporter of Messi threatened by criminals and Taliban

KABUL, Afghanistan – A young Afghan football enthusiast who became famous after being photographed in a messi shirt made from a plastic bag fled with his family to the capital after gangs of criminals and Taliban threatened to kill him or to kidnap him.

Shafiqa Ahmedi said on Friday that criminals had threatened to kidnap his 7-year-old son, Murtaza, a fan of Argentine football star Lionel Messi, after demanding money.

The photo of Murtaza in his plastic shirt Messi playing football became viral on social media two years ago. He met his hero last December.

Shafiqa, who has been a sensation on the Internet for a long time, said his son was not able to go to school and now lives in a cold, unheated room in Kabul.
