AB blood group is more prone to dementia, this is the reason why Page all

COMPASS.com – Dementia or reduced memory (memory) can be experienced by anyone as part of the signs of aging.

nonetheless, one study states that there is only one blood type that is at risk of developing dementia, namely blood type AB.

“People with type AB blood are more likely to action memory loss as they age than people with other blood types.”

This is the narrative of researchers through a study published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN).

The reason

According to the AAN, AB is the least common blood type, found in about 4 percent of the US population.

Studies also show that people with blood type AB are 82 percent more likely to develop thinking and memory problems, which can lead to dementia, than people with other blood types.

“The researchers looked at blood levels of factor VIII, or a protein that helps blood clot.”

“In blood group AB, high levels of factor VIII are associated with a greater risk of cognitive impairment and dementia,” the AAN said.

And those in the study with the highest levels of factor VIII were 24 percent more likely to develop thinking and memory problems than those with the lowest levels of the protein.

“People with AB blood also have a higher average level of factor VIII than people with other blood types,” he continued.

Meanwhile, according to the AAN, previous studies have shown that people with type O blood have a lower risk of heart disease and stroke, or factors that can increase the risk of memory loss and dementia.

“nonetheless, studies also show that smoking, lack of exercise, obesity and other lifestyle factors can increase the risk of dementia higher,” said a clinical expert in the field of stroke and geriatric medicine, Dr. Terence Quinn.

For this reason, regardless of your blood type, Quinn recommends that people maintain a healthier lifestyle to reduce their risk of developing dementia or other degenerative brain diseases.
