Geelong fans are taking the first look at the man brought in to replace Tim Kelly – ex Saint Jack Steven – while the cats face Essendon in the last game of the 2020 pre-season.
The cats (16-6, 135.7% last year) named Steven as part of a much stronger side than what he lost to Gold Coast two weeks ago, although they are still without captain Joel Selwood (tendon of the knee). Luke Dahlhaus, Brandan Parfitt and Sam Menegola are some of the other inclusions.
The Bombers (12-10, 95.4% last year) should have had their big inclusions in Jake Stringer and Conor McKenna. The latter returned to training last week after spending time in Ireland due to homesickness, but instead played in a VFL practice game, while Stringer was a late retirement for personal reasons.

Jack Steven took just 25 seconds to impact the colors of the cats, contributing to a Gryan Miers goal.
Steven finished the first quarter with nine eliminations, while teammate Patrick Dangerfield reached a maximum of 12. The bombers were guided from one point to the opening break.
Only six goals were scored – combined – in the first half with the slow movement of the Cats’ ball out of defense which made a surprise, with the exception of one time they advanced it. Two of the major ones came from Geelong’s Gryan Miers, while two others came from Essendon Jacob Townsend’s recruit.
The bombers began to retreat in the third quarter with Darcy Parish, near Colac, kicking his third goal of the day.
The game started at 16:40 EDT from the Colac Central Reserve.
