In response to this, the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI) Alphonzus Widjaja welcomed the easing policy given by the government.

According to him, these easings have been long awaited by shopping center business players, especially to be able to boost the level of visits so that in the end it can reactivate economic growth.

“We certainly welcome the easing that has been decided by the government. And of course this is what we are waiting for so that the mall and shopping center industry can recover and return to normal,” said Alphonzus when contacted Kompas.com, Tuesday (19/10/2021).

Alphonzus explained that with this easing, the rate of visits to malls and shopping centers is expected to increase in the future.

By the end of the year, the increase is targeted to reach an average of 50 percent.

“It is expected to reach an average of 50 percent by the end of 2021,” he said.

To anticipate a surge, shopping centers will also temporarily close if the visitors who come are in accordance with the required capacity.

“Entrance to the shopping center will be temporarily closed until the number of visitors inside the shopping center decreases,” he said.

For information, the government has again extended the policy for the implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) at various levels to suppress the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The PPKM policy has been extended for 14 days, starting from October 19 to November 1, 2021.

Especially for the extension of PPKM in Java and Bali, the rules are contained in the Domestic Instruction (Inmendagri) Number 53 of 2021 concerning the Enforcement of Restrictions on Community Activities Level 3, Level 2, and Level 1 Corona Virus Disease 2019 in the Java and Bali Regions.

In this regulation, the government allows the operation of malls and shopping centers at various levels of PPKM in Java and Bali.

In addition, specifically in the PPKM Level 1 and 2 areas, the government also allows children under the age of 12 to enter malls and shopping centers.

Here are the complete rules for opening malls and shopping centers:

Level 1: Activities at malls and shopping centers are opened with a maximum capacity of 100 percent until 22.00 local time.

Furthermore, children under the age of 12 are also allowed to enter the mall provided that they are accompanied by their parents.
