“By using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox disinfectant wipes, you can gently clean the hard, non-porous surfaces of the Apple product, such as the display, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces,” says the company. “Do not use bleach. Avoid moisture in any opening and do not immerse the Apple product in detergents. Do not use on fabric or leather surfaces.”
Previously, Apple had advised against using anything other than water to clean its products because some substances can wear down the oil-repellent coating that the company applies to keep its touchscreen devices at their best. Health and safety have priority in this case. With that said, there are a couple of things you can do to take care of yourself and your device.
The best thing to do is to use isopropyl alcohol. Apply a small amount on a soft microfiber cloth, then clean the device. If you don’t own a microfiber cloth, they are not expensive to buy. In a pinch, even an old but clean shirt will do the trick. Avoid spraying anything directly on your phone’s display. We also recommend that you avoid paper towels as they can cause small abrasions. After cleaning the phone, also wash your hands.
