Army-Navy Uniforms: The Big Red One vs. Bill the Goat

Among all the traditions and feats surrounding the Army-Navy game, one of the coolest moments of the annual fight is the special uniform that both teams wear.

The army donned black and elegant uniforms with red accents for the 119th iteration of Saturday in honor of the 1st Infantry Division, formed during the First World War and which was the first permanent division of the Army. The Black Knights call the Nike "Big Red One" uniforms, the nickname of the division so won, because the "1" badge on the sleeve "was twice as big as the Allied or German divisions on the Western Front" . of course this year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

The matte black helmets, which carry a red "1" on the front imitating the shoulder band of the division's original helmets and sport an American flag from the time of the First World War ( with 48 stars), are particularly elegant. a kind of black lion with the mythological look on the shoulder in the honor of the first great American victory of the First World War at the Battle of Cantigny – the 28th Infantry of the 1st Division was nicknamed "black lions" of Cantigny ".

The navy chose a timeless inspiration this year in its mascot, Bill the Goat, and explained the design in a press release published in October.

"The Naval Academy has designated this goat as mascot of honor for the fourth game of the Navy in which the Navy beats the Army in a capital victory. To commemorate this victory, the goat was named the team's mascot and became a valuable symbol of the Navy's football program, "the statement said.

It's a sleek look, mediums are sporty Saturday; Under Armor gave them classic white pants and a white jersey with blue and gold accents. The helmets, which are navy with gold and white stripes, feature a complex representation of Bill the Goat, as do the gloves – a particularly elegant hidden treat. One of the Navy's slogans, "Do not give up the ship," is sewn at the bottom of the jerseys.

The Navy has worn a replacement uniform in all army-navy games since 2014, when Under Armor became the school uniform supplier. Last year 's creations include the 2017 Blue Angels' inspired costume, which looked fabulous at last year' s snow match, 'Do not walk on me' uniforms. of 2014 and the 2016 Reigning Uniforms celebrating the Roger Staubach team led by 1963.

Among the Army's accomplishments are those that honored the 82nd Airborne Division in 2016 and the white look of last year paying homage to the 10th Mountain Division, named "Climb to Glory".
