The day after a first informal dinner, the G7 leaders gathered in Biarritz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) again discussed Sunday, August 25, the major topics on the agenda of international diplomacy. This time they gathered around a table and, according to Donald Trump, under the sign of a good mutual understanding, despite obvious disagreements. G7 leaders (United States, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Japan and Canada) "Get along very well", assured the US president on Twitter, contrary to what he might think "Disgusting fake news".

Nuclear Iran, reintegration of Russia, fires in the Amazon … The issues on the agenda of the discussions are numerous.

  • On Iran, the G7 countries will continue "to act each in their role"

On the subject of the Iranian nuclear, first misunderstandings between the leaders present in Biarritz appeared Sunday in the middle of the day. At the microphone of LCI, the French president Emmanuel Macron, at first, affirmed to have been charged by his partners of a "Common communication" on the record, confirming information given from diplomatic sources.

According to these sources, the Seven have charged Emmanuel Macron "Discuss and send a message to Iran" to avoid climbing in the area. The Iranians stopped in July to respect certain commitments of the Vienna agreement framing their nuclear program, in reaction to the exit in May 2018 of the United States of the text and the reintroduction of heavy American sanctions.

Pau after, however, US President Donald Trump denied that the G7 countries have agreed on a common message to transmit to Iran. "I did not discuss that"he said in response to reporters. He forced Mr. Macron back on his words:

"The G7 is an informal club, there is no formal mandate that is given in the G7 to one or the other and so there are initiatives that will continue to be taken by one And the others. "

"We had a discussion yesterday on Iran which has identified two common lines of force"he continued in front of the press on the sidelines of the summit:

"No G7 member wants Iran to ever have a nuclear weapon (…) and all G7 members are deeply committed to stability and peace in the region and therefore do not want to engage in actions that could harm to these.

In early August, Emmanuel Macron, very involved in the European efforts to try to save the agreement, had attracted the wrath of Donald Trump who had reproached him for talking too much "For the United States".

The Seven also addressed Sunday the issue of the Amazon, which has been suffering from thousands of fires for several weeks causing a global outcry against the policy of Brazilian President Jari Bolsonaro. The head of state, Emmanuel Macron, announced at the beginning of the afternoon that the G7 countries had agreed to "To help the countries struck as quickly as possible".

"There is a real convergence to say" we all agree to help as soon as possible the countries that are struck by these fires "", reported the French president, reporting contacts in progress "With all the countries of the Amazon (…) so that we can finalize very concrete commitments of technical and financial means". "We are working on an international mobilization mechanism to help these countries more effectively"said Macron.

As for the longer-term question of the reforestation of the Amazon, "Several sensibilities were expressed around the table"Mr. Macron added, stressing the commitment of the countries concerned to their national sovereignty. "But the challenge of the Amazon for these countries as for the international community is such in terms of biodiversity, oxygen, the fight against global warming that we need to do this reforestation "pleaded the French president.

For his part, Pope Francis, after the traditional prayer of the Angelus, said "Worried" of the situation in the Amazon. "We are concerned about the vast fires that have developed in the Amazon. This forest lung is vital for our planet "he warned.

  • "Too soon" to return to Russia

During their dinner on Saturday night, at the foot of the Biarritz lighthouse, the seven leaders also agreed to "Strengthen dialogue and coordination" on the current crises with Russia, while considering that it was " too early " to reintegrate into a G8, according to a diplomatic source. Russia was excluded from the G8 in 2014 after the invasion of Crimea. But Donald Trump is rather favorable to his return, unlike his peers.

  • The trade war between Beijing and Washington does not "cause tension", according to Trump

Sunday morning's working session was devoted to "The international economy", at " trade " and at the "International security", a program large enough to theoretically address all the issues that anger, including the deleterious trade relations between the United States and China. Donald Trump however said Sunday that this trade war did not cause tension at the top.

"I think they respect the trade war. It had to take place »said the US president to reporters. He also said that he regretted not having raised more customs duties for Chinese products.

Very much in favor of bilateral agreements, Donald Trump also claimed that the United States was " very close " of a commercial agreement " major " with Japan on which both countries have been working for five months.
