A car bomb exploded on Monday at the entrance of the vast French military base of Gao, in the north-east of Mali, causing three French and Estonian casualties, the spokesman for the French General Staff said.

"There was an attack by a VBIED (vehicle bomb) at 3:45 pm at the entrance of the French part of the Gao camp", shared between the French anti-jihadist force Barkhane, the United Nations peacekeeping force ( Minusma) and the Malian armed forces (FAMa), he told AFP, referring to "three French soldiers and Estonians wounded", whose vital prognosis is not engaged.
