[OSEN=서정환 기자] Rafael Nadal (36, Spain), the ‘soil god’, is on the verge of another Grand Slam achievement.

Nadal beat Matteo Beretini (26, Italy), world ranking 7th, in the ‘2022 Australian Open quarterfinals’ held at Road Laver Arena, Melbourne, Australia on the 28th with a set score of 3-1 (6-3, 6-2, 3-6) , 6-3) won.

Nadal, who advanced to the finals first, will face the winner of the match between Stefano Tschipas (Greece, 4th place) and Danil Medvedev (Russia, 2nd place) to compete for the title.

Before the competition, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic was deported from Australia for not being vaccinated. The Serbian government expressed regret, but the Australian government was firm. As a result, it is unclear whether Djokovic will participate in other competitions.

If Nadal wins this tournament, it will be his 21st major championship title. Among the ‘big three’ Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic (more than 20 major wins), Nadal will achieve the most wins. / jasonseo34@osen.co.kr
