Electronica »Words fail to describe the genius of Autechre. With Sign, the fourteenth album in almost 30 years of career, the Manchester duo prove once again that their electronic experiments have no limits. After flooding the electronica planet with live recordings and extended concepts in recent years – the eight hours of NTS Sessions – Rob Brown and Sean Booth get back to basics on these 11 tracks that strongly recall the conciseness of their works from youth, notably the classic Tri Repetae (1995). But let’s not rely too much on Autechre to paraphrase… With its hyper-present textured layers and crazy rhythms, Sign does indeed offer something new. A trip to the land of machines from which one emerges amazed. OW
