KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, recently appointed Minister of Commerce and Industry, said that his ministry’s main objective this year will be to ensure the success of Asia Pacific economic cooperation (APEC) 2020 in November.
Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his ministerial appointment, the member of Parliament of Gombak said he understood that the responsibility that was attributed to him is serious, especially in view of the current economic context and the difficult global trade.
“In addition, Malaysia is organizing” Shared Prosperity “on the theme of Apec 2020 and this will be at the center of the (nation’s) direction on the cooperation of the most dynamic and open global economy.
“Together with the ministry staff, we will work together on the basis of the prime minister’s aspiration to ensure success (APEC).
“This is an opportunity for Malaysia to introduce the vision of shared prosperity (SPV) as a solution to the many global economic and social problems,” he said.
He added that the new Perikatan Nasional government has been committed to continuing the previous government’s SPV initiative.
“The government will focus on economic growth, job creation and looking after people’s well-being,” he said.
Azmin’s deputy in the ministry is the MCA vice-president, Datuk Lim Ban Hong, who will be appointed senator.
