Badly treated headaches can lead to higher doses of medicines

Mexico, Apr 19 (EFE) .- Headaches poorly treated with a combination of several analgesics can lead to eventually require greater doses to control their discomfort or that these decrease their effectiveness, warned a specialist today.

“There are a lot of medicines on the market to relieve headaches, however, it is necessary to check the label before buying them and, above all, consult with the doctor if it is favorable or not to consume them,” said neurologist Nayeli Alejandra Sánchez Rosales.

In a statement, the doctor attached to the Hospital of Specialties of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in the Mexican state of Jalisco, said that while drugs that mix several analgesics, initially, remove the headache, it is preferable to use a only active

He explained that in 80% of cases the headache does not hide serious health problems, because it is due to bad lifestyle habits, “improving them greatly reduces their incidence,” he said.

The specialist said that it is necessary to avoid the consumption of products that cause vasoconstriction or reduction of blood vessels such as chocolate, red wine, coffee or tobacco.

In the framework of the World Headache Day that is celebrated today, he explained that other of the most frequent causes of headache are an inadequate handling of the daily stress, to do voluntary or involuntary fasting.

In the same way, the lack of physical activity and the lack of sleep hygiene to sleep an average of eight hours a day affect this problem.

“Exercise is an excellent way to stay active, manage stress, sleep better and therefore lower the frequency with which headaches occur and even cases of depression,” he explained.

Sánchez Rosales said that the frequency of the exercise should be at least three days a week, with a minimum duration of 30 minutes per session and if, despite everything, headaches occur, you should see a doctor.

“Self-medication is not recommended because this causes more problems in the long run,” he concluded.
