Paris – French women's basketball team coach Valérie Garnier was sacked by her Turkish club Fenerbahce on the eve of the Euro in Latvia and Serbia, the Istanbul club said on Wednesday.
Valérie Garnier, 54, took the reins of Fenerbahçe during the winter of 2018 after leading Bourges for six years. She won the Turkish national title twice in a row, but failed to qualify for the Euroleague Final Four.
The former Mirande player has been at the helm of the Bleues since 2013. She has been a two-time silver medalist at the Euro in 2015 and 2017 and fourth at the Rio Games.
France starts its European Championship on Thursday in Riga with a match against the Czech Republic.
