Police in Belgian Limburg will carry out extra checks on mobile phone use while driving. Additional checks will be made in the coming weeks.
This was announced by the Belgian Public Justice Service in Limburg.
Phone is ‘killer’
Police will conduct extra checks on behalf of the Public Justice Service. The punishment is not lenient: anyone caught will lose their driver’s license immediately. According to the Public Justice Service, urgent action is needed. “Distraction due to the use of a mobile phone or smartphone behind the wheel is one of the killers in traffic,” the Belgian-Limburg Justice Service said. There are already large fines for calling behind the wheel in Belgium, but the sanction will be even more severe in the coming weeks.
Extra checks will last until June 12th.
