YB: The master is hot
YB was able to compensate for the departure of Jordan Lotomba with Silvan Hefti. In addition, Sions Quentin Maceiras came to replace Janko. And: Superknipser Jean-Pierre Nsame (41 goals in 46 games last season) is still there! The Bernese are hot and well-rehearsed. But during the week YB still has to travel to Denmark for the qualifying game against Midtjylland. A disadvantage?
Servette: Mendy with a strong debut
The Geneva are in good shape! Thanks to the 3-0 win against Ruzomberok, they are confidently in the second qualifying round of the Europa League. There the Geiger troupe will compete against Stade Reims on Thursday (fifth place in the past Ligue 1 season). Pleasing from the point of view of the new sporting director Senderos: Mendy, brought in as an Iapichino replacement, shows a strong competitive debut including a dream goal. And: team top scorer Kone extends his contract until 2022.
Lucerne: new system
Fabio Celestini wants to play courageous offensive football in the new season. The team got used to the new system of the French-speaking region in the test games. However, various reinforcements are still missing: on the defensive and on the offensive. The Lucerne have not lost a single test (2: 0, 1: 1 and 6: 1). And the cup game against relegated Thun was also successful.
Lugano: Bottani is back
The great advantage of the Ticino: The team has hardly changed. So far, all key players have been retained. Mattia Bottani is back after an injury. Only striker Rangelo Janga has not yet found a replacement. The dress rehearsal in the Cup away from home in Schaffhausen was a success – albeit with a bit of a dizziness. And: Lugano has not lost in Cornaredo since November 2019.
Zurich: 10 games without a win
After the two bankruptcies in the first tests against Schaffhausen (2: 5) and Lucerne (0: 2), the results are up. 1-0 against Wil. 3-0 against Winterthur. Two wins against two Challenge League teams – and all that to zero. Ludovic Magnin’s team seems to be ready for the cup fight against Chiasso. And now the early cup-out in Chiasso. What a blatant false start into the new season! It is the tenth serious fight in a row without a win. The only Zurich resident who is at least a little self-confident is returnees Assan Ceesay. Double against Winterthur, double against Chiasso. Nevertheless: The form check of the FCZ? Like a counted boxer on the ropes. And this a few days before the start of the season.
Lausanne: Bleibt Zeqiri?
In the friendly matches, Giorgio Contini’s team shows two faces. The Lausanne team won 3-0 against FC Echallens from the 1st division, and the Vaudois also won against Sion (2-1). The master from Bern, however, is a size too big. It is 2: 5 in the end from Lausanne’s point of view. In the cup against 1.-Ligist Nyon, the Contini-Elf falls behind. Aldin Turkes gave the answer just two minutes later. Then Andi Zeqiri shoots the favorite into the next round. The question is: Can the Lausanne team keep the form-strong U21 international? His contract expires in June 2021. With Dan Ndoye, the newcomer has already lost a top man. The wing has been playing for Nice since this season.
St. Gallen: Who will replace Hefti?
The aspens are looking for shape. Finally there is a 1: 3 against Türkgücü Munich (3rd division). The key questions: Who will replace Captain Hefti (YB) in the back right? And how are the successors of the strikers Itten / Demirovic doing? The first Hefti replacement is Alessandro Kräuchi (22). The alternatives Rüfli (purulent angina) and Lüchinger (repeated knee operation) are canceled. In the storm, Kamberi, Duah and Youan still have to find each other. Bitter: Midfield ace Lukas Görtler could miss the start of the season because of a bruised shin.
Basel: Numerous construction sites
Fans who have rebelled against the club’s management for weeks, rumors of change about Captain Valentin Stocker, who is ensnared by FC Luzern, with Ciriaco Sforza, a new coach who has little preparation time: At FC Basel there are still numerous construction sites on and off the pitch. The dress rehearsal before the major Europa League qualifying game at Osijek (Kro) on Thursday goes completely wrong. 1: 5 against the German third division team Saarbrücken!
Sion: Major departures
Many important departures, hardly any additions. There is also a new world champion trainer from Italy, who first has to acclimate himself in Valais. The hard-won cup success at first division Schötz has also shown that the Sion team are not yet fully in combat mode. Coach Fabio Grosso still has a lot to do until Sunday and the away game in St. Gallen.
Vaduz: Not convincing
Promoted Vaduz is still looking for the momentum with which he went into the Barrage games against Thun (2: 0/3: 4). In the Europa League qualification, it was a disappointing 2-0 defeat against outsider Hibernians from Malta. The FCV was only moderately convincing in the tests. A 3: 1 against Wil is followed by a 1: 2 against Rapperswil-Jona and a 1: 2 against Türkgücü Munich from Germany’s 3rd division.
