Benetton will leave Belgium in 2021

An information meeting for staff is scheduled for October 6.

Lhe Italian ready-to-wear group Benetton will leave Belgium in 2021, as evidenced by a letter sent to employees on Tuesday and quoted in La Libre Belgique on Friday. The company justifies its decision by “unsatisfactory performance on the Belgian market”, which “continues to deteriorate over the seasons”, especially “in recent months”.

Benetton had already closed its last two stores, the one in Brussels in February 2019 and the one in Antwerp in March of this year. Benetton clothes were no longer sold except at the Messancy outlet and in Inno stores.

29 jobs threatened

The outlet would definitively close its doors in early 2022 and the collaboration with Galeria Inno should end during the first half of 2021, wrote the management to its workers, who are now only 29 in Belgium, employed at the head office or as salespeople. They should all be fired.

At this stage, it is only an intention of closure and collective dismissal. An information meeting for staff is scheduled for October 6.
