Biden nominates Pentagon’s first female No. 2

The president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, nominated Kathleen Hicks as Deputy Secretary of Defense on Wednesday, December 30, which will make her the first woman to hold number two in the Pentagon, if confirmed by the Senate. .

Hicks, who heads Biden’s transition team at the Pentagon, worked in the Department of Defense during Barack Obama’s presidency.

He currently works at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a think tank in Washington.

Biden, who will assume the presidency on January 20, also appointed Colin Kahl, another civilian with experience in the Obama administration, to another senior position at the Pentagon.

Kahl was elected to the position of undersecretary of defense for policy.

Biden nominated retired General Lloyd Austin as Secretary of Defense.

Another woman, Christine Fox, already held the position of Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for six months during the Obama administration until her retirement in 2014, but she was not proposed for Senate confirmation.
