Biomedical Tattoo should serve as a tumor early warning system
Tumors are often discovered only when they are already critical. For early detection, researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich have developed a biomedical tattoo, as explained in the journal “Science Translational Medicine”. An implant constantly measures the calcium concentration of the blood. If these increase over a longer period of time, this could indicate cancer in the prostate, lung, breast or bowel. A visible mole then forms on the skin – as a signal for the patient to take precautionary measures. In animal experiments, the tattoo has already proven itself.
