Around 6 a.m., the large tree was brought under police escort to the Grand-Place, placed on a large trailer. It was lifted using two cranes and placed in the hole dug for this purpose. The operation went smoothly.

For the two owners of the conifer, Paul Vierendeels and Annemie Soete, the moment was full of emotions. “We will come back very often. Family and friends have already agreed to come and see him and we will accompany them, if this remains possible with the sanitary measures, ”explained the lady.

The next step for the tree will be its decoration. His makeover will be done during the night of Saturday, November 20. For about eight hours, eight professionals assisted by three bucket trucks will dress the spruce with 20 beads of backlit red lights, 40 luminous rods with falling snow effect, 40 red balls, 60 wooden balls with a compass rose and 60 wooden stars with the effigy of the muzzle of an old-fashioned locomotive. Without forgetting its red garlands, which will embrace the tree. All the illuminations will be in LED.

“Last year’s tree was transformed into a trophy for this summer’s BXL TOUR as well as street furniture for this edition of the Winter Wonders. The second life of the 2021 tree is currently under study, ”said Delphine Houba, alderman for Culture, Tourism and Major Events at the City of Brussels.
