Car of the year 2021: the candidates

A little more than six months after the Peugeot 208’s victory for the year 2020, the election of the Car of the year 2021, the “Car of the year”, kicks off. The organizers have just published the list of 38 pre-selected vehicles.

As a reminder, candidates must be on sale in at least five European countries before the end of this year. This explains the presence in the first list of models that have not yet joined the dealerships but should do so soon, for example the new Dacia Sandero or the Hyundai Tucson.

However, the list will be refined for the first time in mid-November and it is at this time that the voting will begin since the journalists who make up the jury will choose the 7 finalists, whose names will be known on December 7. A new vote will decide between these 7 finalists, the name of the 2021 winner will be revealed on March 1.

Among the French contenders for the moment, there is the new Citroën C4, the DS 9 and the Peugeot 2008. There is therefore no Renault, the latest models launched by the Losange (Clio and Captur) having participated in the 2020 election. Among the foreign models which are already among the favorites, we retain the Audi A3, the Fiat 500, the Mercedes GLA, the Seat Leon, the Toyota Yaris and the Volkswagen ID.3.
