Charleroi: A driver deliberately runs into the canal with his companion aboard

A man was killed on Friday morning after he deliberately submerged his car in the Charleroi-Brussels canal in Dampremy (Charleroi, Hainaut province), the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office said, confirming information from several media outlets. The victim’s partner, who was also present inside the car, got out of the car and went to the surface. He was auditioning Friday afternoon.

Facts were held not far from Side Street in Dampremy. A driver voluntarily drove through the canal, with his boyfriend in the car. “The driver died. The boyfriend was able to get out of the car and return to the surface“, confirmed Charleroi’s prosecutor’s office.

An investigation was opened to shed light on the facts. The boyfriend’s day is not in danger and the latter is auditioning now. “It is without his consent that the facts occurred. It looks like a suicide where the driver also wanted to kill his boyfriend“, concluded the judicial authorities.
