On December 24, the last day of school before the Christmas holidays and Christmas Eve, students and teachers are no longer expected to be at school after noon.
Teachers and students get an extra half day of vacation on 24 December – not a public holiday. “This arrangement is always made if Christmas Eve falls on the last Friday of the first semester, and therefore outside the Christmas holidays,” says the cabinet of Flemish Minister of Education Ben Weyts (N-VA).
“Pupils, course participants and staff members can now look forward to the festivities planned for that evening in most families in a more relaxed way,” it sounds. The measure does not only apply to schools, but also to academies and centers for adult education.
This is not a novelty or last minute change for educational institutions. They were already informed at the end of May through the official channels. The old news is now resurfacing because an identical announcement was sent out in French-speaking Belgium on Tuesday.
