SALEM, Hours. (PRWEB) March 09, 2020

Corban University recently announced that it would re-launch its computer science degree, starting in autumn 2020.

Tom Cornman, Provost, says: “We believe that offering a four-year bachelor’s degree in computer science will effectively prepare our students to increase opportunities in a data-driven and data-rich world. While the major in computer science will be particularly equipped to meet the needs today’s data, other majors will also have the opportunity to add a computer minor and acquire the analytical skills necessary for a world that relies heavily on data “.

Joining the Corban Faculty Department to direct the program will be the new hiring of Dr. Deborah Thomas, who holds a doctorate. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. More recently, Dr. Thomas was an assistant professor of mathematics and computer science at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn., And taught at Eastern Oregon University in the computer science and multimedia department.

Thomas says, “Computers are becoming increasingly ubiquitous in our daily lives. As new applications are developed, we need programmers who can design and implement software for these various uses. There is always a need for programmers in any field. whether it’s medical, financial or even gaming. My vision of Corban’s program is to give students another career path to explore. Just as it is important to have Christians in fields such as nursing and teaching, it’s equally important to have programmers and Christian developers are a light in corporate circles. ”

Corban’s decision to relaunch computer science was born from the increase in demand, both from future students and from employers in today’s market. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs for software developers are expected to increase by 21% between 2018 and 2028. (The national average for employment growth is only 5%). Over the same time, jobs for computer and information system managers are expected to increase by 11% and jobs for information security analysts are expected to increase by 32%! This is just a snapshot of the way companies increasingly rely on data systems and those who know how to implement them.

Incoming university freshmen interested in the autumn 2020 program are now invited to apply for Corban University. https://www.corban.edu/
