The classic cyclist Ghent-Wevelgem, scheduled for March 29 in Belgium, was postponed Friday by its organizers due to the pandemic of new coronavirus, in the same way as the Grand Prix of E3 and Through Flanders. No new date has been chosen, however.
“Gand-Wevelgem and A Travers la Flandre will not be able to take place this spring as planned, respectively on March 29 and April 1, 2020”, indicated on its site Flanders Classics, which organizes the two tests as well as the Tour of Flanders, one of the five “monuments” of cycling scheduled for April 5.
“The Belgian federal government has taken important steps to limit the spread and impact of the COVID-19 virus as much as possible. This means that all sporting events will be suspended until Friday, April 3, “continued the organizer.
For the same reason, “the E3 BinckBank Classic will not take place on March 27,” announced its organizers on the event website, which is not managed by Flanders classics.
Since the start of the epidemic, 559 cases of Covid-19 infections have been detected in the flat country.
