Coronavirus: the total number of contaminations in Belgium exceeds the threshold of 4 million

Since the start of the pandemic, i.e. March 2020, Belgium has recorded 4 million contaminations in total. In recent days, the number of new contaminations has been decreasing.

ADuring the last reference week, ending Monday April 11, 8,585 coronavirus contaminations were recorded each day, a decrease of 11% compared to the previous period, according to the latest data from the public health institute. Sciensano, published Friday. Since March 2020, Belgium has recorded a total of 4 million contaminations.



The number of hospital admissions continues to increase, reaching an average of 222.7 patients per day (+3%). Currently, 3,148 patients with covid-19 are hospitalized. This represents a 2% increase on a weekly basis. The increase also concerns intensive care (+5%), with 183 patients.

An average of 23.6 people died from coronavirus each day last week (-1%), for a total of 31,200 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The number of tests was also lower last week than during the previous reference period: -20% for an average of 30,400 per day, of which 31.1% turned out to be positive.

The total number of coronavirus contaminations in the world has reached the milestone of 500 million, according to a communication from the World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday evening.
