“Accelerated” naturalization for foreigners on the “front line”
The Minister Delegate for Citizenship, Marlène Schiappa, instructed the prefects to “accelerate” and “facilitate” the French naturalization of foreign nationals who have mobilized “on the front line” during the epidemic. “The files of access to nationality of people who have actively contributed, on the front line, to the fight against covid-19, in particular health personnel, will be able to see their processing accelerated and facilitated”, writes the Minister, in particular in charge of questions related to refugees and integration, in a telegram to be sent this Tuesday morning to the prefects. The State thus wishes “to recognize the commitment of people who have taken an active part in the fight against covid-19”, specifies the text, by carrying out “a priority and individualized examination of these files”. Concretely, “for naturalization files (…), the concept of” services rendered important “could be used to reduce the duration of the internship, that is to say the minimum duration of residence in France required, to two years, instead of five in ordinary law “.
