October is coming slowly, but surely. The 2020 NHL Draft too! It’s been set in stone for a few weeks now, the Canadian will select at the 16th echelon during the auction. The question that burns everyone’s lips (and who will continue to do so until the moment of selection): who will be the choice of Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmins on October 6?
Failing to have the answer, TSN is currently conducting a poll to find out who fans want to see the various Canadian teams draft. In the case of the Habs, the four voting options were: Dawson Mercer (Chicoutimi), Hendrix Lapierre (Chicoutimi), Jacob Perreault (Sarnia) and Lukas Reichel (Eisbären Berlin).

The two representatives of the QMJHL dominated the vote. In fact, they finished tied for first with 41% of the vote each.

Draft analyst Craig Button believes Mercer is the piece Montreal needs.
He emphasizes that the Newfoundland native is a good scorer, but also has a vision for the game that will allow him to create scoring opportunities for his teammates.
TSN compares the Chicoutimi Saguenéens forward to Blake Wheeler. It’s taken well, as they say …
I really like Mercer. I have had the opportunity to see him play several times over the past three years while he was playing for the Drummondville Voltigeurs and I was covering games for the Gatineau Olympiques. The fact that he is right-handed is a marked advantage for him. Montreal is sorely lacking in depth on the right wing, and Brendan Gallagher’s long-term future with the team cannot be guaranteed. It would also allow the Canadian to have a natural right-hander in the position.
