A few days ago we learned of the hacking of CD Project with the key, the theft of the source codes of The Witcher 3 as well as Cybepunk 2077. One more tile for the Polish studio which had been contacted by the thieves to negotiate a ransom.
The hack also allowed hackers to get their hands on the source code of Gwent, an unreleased version of The Witcher 3, an unfinished version of the upcoming graphics and physics engine RED engine, as well as administrative records … CD Projekt had quickly confirmed the piracy while specifying having succeeded in recovering the administrative files and securing its servers, the studio also indicated that it did not wish to negotiate and therefore refused to pay the ransom to avoid seeing its games published on the web.
Faced with the refusal, the hackers auctioned the source codes of the two titles on the dark web, and the sale quickly ignited … Finally, the source codes sold for the equivalent of $ 7 million , in bitcoin of course …
For its part CD Projekt indicates that piracy has not affected the database of users of its titles.
