Doctor Geert Meyfroidt exchanges intensive care for Tour of Flanders: “Even without corona patients”

The Tour of Flanders is the high mass of the Flemish race and that’s how doctor Geert Meyfroidt sees it. For the second year in a row, with great concern, he leaves the intensive care department of UZ Leuven for a while and ventures into the racing peloton. “To be clear, I was there to work, not as a spectator,” Dr. Meyfroidt explains first. “Every year there are a few doctors who ride along in the race to solve minor medical problems. In addition, in the event of falls, we also have to check that the riders are in order and, if necessary, we can also provide intensive care.”
