Donegal youth counselors support the HPV vaccination program | Highland Radio

Health Service Executive Area Executive Pauline Gallagher meeting with members of Foróige Youth Services and seconded school students to explain and discuss the human papilloma virus (HPV) and vaccination.

Donegal Youth Council is asking young people to get the HPV vaccine.

For the first time, the vaccine is being offered to girls and boys entering first year of secondary school.

They are asking young people to “get the facts” and be wary of where they get their information about vaccines online.

The vaccine helps to rescue some types of cervical cancer and prevent other forms of cancer, and has been approved by many organizations around the world as the World Health Organization.

According to the high level the HSE could get the vaccine, more than 100 lives could be saved each year.

A sub-group of youth advisers met with the HSE Area Medical Officer to ask questions and ensure they were as knowledgeable as possible before the start of their new campaigns, which will take place on their own social media pages.
