Eddie Hearn drops the biggest clue to Anthony Joshua’s fight as Arsenal and Tottenham fight

Anthony Joshua’s return to the ring in June appears to take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ready to take on Kubrat Pulev later in the year, after beating Andy Ruiz in December, both North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal competed to host the match.

After the success of the NFL games in the N17 last October and with the rugby union and rugby league matches to be played in the coming months, Spurs’ extraordinary new home is the favorite to host yet another sport.

Well, following Tyson Fury’s victory over Deontay Wilder over the weekend, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn opened Joshua’s plans with anyone in the country who wanted British boxers to clash.

“We want the next meeting with Tyson Fury,” he told Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “AJ called me yesterday and said ‘how can we do this fight?’

“We have an obligation in Kubrat Pulev. The beauty of the whole situation is that Bob Arum promotes both Tyson Fury and Kubrat Pulev, so there is clearly an agreement to be made if – and you are right – if Deontay Wilder exercises his revenge clause, there is nothing we can do. That struggle is happening and we accept it.

“I hope he doesn’t, but I’m sure he will. I mean, what else will he do? If he gets away from the rematch, he has to fight what, a setup? Which basically says ‘I’m a defeated individual.’

“Anthony Joshua, when he lost to Andy Ruiz, everyone said ‘oh he shouldn’t reevaluate Andy Ruiz, he should come back, take some time, regain his confidence.’ Listen, from the moment we sat in the dressing after the clash, we only talked about revenge.

“And now we will see the championship mentality of Deontay Wilder. It is a bit out of our hands, but I want to clarify one thing: if there is no revenge we want to do everything we can to make AJ against Fury afterwards.

“If Wilder comes out and announces that he wants revenge, no problem, let’s fight Kubrat Pulev – it seems on June 20 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in front of 70,000, AJ returns home to fight in London.

“But for us, for AJ, the clear priority has always been undisputed and if there is a chance to fight Fury later, we will take it with both hands.”
