LONDON: England have pulled out of a tour of Pakistan after New Zealand, a major setback for Pakistan cricket. If New Zealand had withdrawn just before the first match after arriving in Pakistan citing security concerns, England would have canceled their decision to tour Pakistan in October. England’s first decision was to tour here ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup. Apart from the men’s team, the women’s team’s tour of Pakistan, which was scheduled to take place at the same time, was also abandoned.
“Earlier this year, we agreed to go to Pakistan in October and play two Twenty20 matches ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup. The women’s team also planned a tour of Pakistan. We met last day to discuss these tours. As per the decision taken there, we are withdrawing from the Pakistan tour of the men’s and women’s teams, ‘the English Cricket Board said in a statement.
The England team has reconsidered its tour of Pakistan after New Zealand canceled their tour of Pakistan at the last minute due to security concerns. The English board has decided to abandon the tour for the physical and mental safety of players who face serious challenges through their lives in the Covid-era BioSecure bubble.
‘The English Board has always attached importance to the physical and mental health of the players. The above factors are more important than ever in this challenging period. There are now serious concerns about touring in Pakistan. The board understands that going there in this situation will put a lot of pressure on the players. The ECB said:
The board is of the view that it is not advisable to embark on a tour of Pakistan ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup, which starts in the UAE on October 14.
‘I know our decision on the Pakistan Cricket Board will be very disappointing. It also recognizes their sincere efforts to bring international cricket back there. The collaboration with them over the last two seasons has been the most cordial for the English Cricket Board. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to Pakistan cricket by our decision. We look forward to continuing the full-fledged tour we have planned for 2022, ”the ECB said.
