EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini will meet a delegation of Israeli Arab legislators in Brussels on 4 September, chaired by Ayman Odeh, the head of the joint list. This is Mogherini's first meeting with Israeli Arab MPs.
The meeting was arranged in the Knesset one week before the passing of the National State Law, but Arab legislators describe the meeting as important after the adoption of the legislation. The law, passed on Thursday, gives Jews the exclusive right to self-determination in the country.

Odeh, Haaretz learned, sent a personal letter to Mogherini on 22 June, after the law was passed at first reading, calling on the European Union to intervene.
The law was criticized by the European Union and denounced as racist legislation by the Palestinian Authority and the Arab citizens of Israel.
Egypt violated the law on Saturday as it undermined the chances for peace in the Middle East and the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes.
American Jewish groups also criticized the passing of the law with Rabbi Steven Wernick, CEO of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, saying that "Israel is losing its soul and weakening its democracy and Jewish character." Its beacon on the United Nations is now dark. Even I'm having trouble seeing it. "
The American Jewish Committee said it was "deeply disappointed" with the passing of the law, which has a resale-like status, highlighting the clause in the legislation that lowers the status of the Arabic language and another that favors the development of Jewish communities.
