Europa League | Live: Espanyol

Espanyol could not overcome against Hungarian Ferencvaros in the first match of the Europa League, at RCDE Stadium, after the visiting team enjoyed a goal in their own door at ten minutes and resisted during the final half hour after a goal from Vargas.

Ferencvaros' pressure made it difficult for the parakeet to exit. The Hungarian insistence, in fact, caused some scares in the early stages of the European clash. Zubkov forced the goalkeeper Diego López to stretch and another whiplash minutes later from the front he was deflected by very little.

Espanyol recovered the rhythm of the game, but the rival's push made the night begin in the worst way for the Catalans. A center of Isael was badly cleared by Javi Lopez in the ten minute and went up to the scoreboard. The both against did not discourage the host, who attacked more accurately.

Wu Lei sent the first serious warning after a quarter of an hour, with a cross shot that Dibusz cleared shortly. The Chinese also topped his head in the next action. Ferencvaros seemed to settle for 0-1 and was far behind, waiting for Espanyol attacks.

The host combined more and more fluently, although the prize did not come. The last pass was missing. The Hungarian cadre, well planted in defensive tasks, kept the revolutions low and limited the risks above, although at times it threatened Diego López's tranquility under sticks.

Espanyol could not fix the score before the break, despite the intensity of the last minutes of the first half. In the resumption, the locals came out determined to solve the problem, but Ferencvaros made it difficult: Isael sent the ball crashed into the squad after five minutes.

The fans believed in the comeback. Cheered. Those of Gallego tested it with a foul shot and after a corner. And finally the tie came: in 60, Vargas took advantage of a rebound to score 1-1 and lift RCDE Stadium. The parakeets, now, cornered the rival with half an hour ahead.

David Gallego refreshed the team to try to finish the job. Pedrosa's entry energized the blue and white attack with his usual speed in the left lane. The physicist of Ferencvaros no longer shone as in the first part and the encounter was clearly of Espanyol.

Barn gave reasons to believe in '78, with a shot at the crosshead, and Calleri followed him with a whiplash in '82. However, the defensive security of the Hungarian team prevented Espanyol from completing the comeback.
