Filipino journalist contesting tax charges

MANILA, Philippines – A prominent Filipino journalist who has traveled to the Philippines and has been sued for tax evasion.

Maria Ressa, CEO of the Rappler website, said Monday that taxes had been paid properly and were politically motivated.

President Rodrigo Duterte, who has had several critical years in the Philippines governments and UN bodies.

Ressa was freed on 60,000 pesos ($ 1,150) lease on the one charge.
