It is the story of Václav and Věra in 1968 and 1969. They gave each other the word that they would stand together in good and bad times. They promised to have firm positions and not to cross certain moral and social boundaries. However, time and surroundings expose them to tests, Václav refuses to join the Communist Party, and the pressure to which he is subjected after August 1968 drives him to a psychiatric institution. It is increasingly difficult for them to keep the word.

“Both are basically decent and good people from a smaller town. Their moral attitude is tested by those around them, and they try to keep the word they have given each other, the whole family, and each one to himself. I think the smaller or bigger dilemma of whether to keep my word or make concessions in the name of various benefits or simply under pressure is still being solved by people. The film captures a topic that concerns each of us, “Parkanová described.
“The word is therefore a timeless film that shows that a person makes decisions in every time and situation, the meaning of which he often cannot see, and which asks the question of the criteria according to which one should make these decisions.”
“I was fascinated by the script from the first reading. Beat’s miniature drawing of mundane and seemingly inconspicuous activities and speeches of characters that we all know from our own lives never ceases to amaze me. In her stories, the great dramas take place rather secretly and in silence, but they wave even more with a sensitive viewer, ”added Martin Finger.
The word will reach its cinema premiere in 2022.
