For the first time, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) will select films for the Golden Globe Award that have been screened online. This decision was made due to the closure of cinemas against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic, according to the association’s website.
The HFPA statement said that the mandatory requirement to show a movie in a movie theater is temporarily canceled. In accordance with the previous rules, all members of the association who have the right to vote must be invited to an official show in Los Angeles.

In accordance with the new rules, distributors will have to provide HFPA members with a link to the screening or DVD copy of the film so that the jury can watch it at home and also agree with the association on the date of viewing. It is noted that the alternative procedure is valid from March 15 until the date when the movie theaters in Los Angeles reopen.
The 78th Golden Globe Award Ceremony is slated for January 2021.
