FIFA plans to hold the Men’s and Women’s World Cups in two years instead of four. Saf, the football federation of Saudi Arabia, made such a proposal at FIFA’s annual congress. Federations in most countries have responded favorably.

In 2018, France won the Men’s World Cup. In 2019, the USA won the Women’s World Cup. FIFA has decided to conduct a study on the conduct of the World Cup every two years. The final decision will be made on the basis of this study report.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has said that 166 countries have supported Safa’s proposal and 22 countries have opposed it. The Football World Cup begins in 1930. The World Cup has been held every four years, with the exception of two postponements during World War II.
