The underground car park in the Lago shopping center in Konstanz (D) was jam-packed with Swiss shopping tourists yesterday. On Thursday evening it became known that Germany is adding eight other cantons to its risk list. That is why many border shoppers have come from Switzerland. Fearing it might be the last for a long time!
“I came here to have lunch and do some shopping again. I’ve had the trip in my head since March, and now it might be the last opportunity for a long time, “says David Zbinden (31) from Uster, Zurich.
“We arrived with a bad feeling,” says Andrea Spahn (42) from Stäfa ZH. She gave her daughter an overnight trip. “I had to call the hotel that morning to see if we could come at all!”
Franco Cuterona (62) from Bettlach SO, on the other hand, is relaxed because his canton is not on the risk list. “But I can’t understand it, it should be the same for all Swiss.”
Hoarded too early
All excitement for the cat. Suddenly, shopping tourists don’t need a negative corona test. And they don’t have to be in quarantine when they cross the border to Weil am Rhein, Lörrach or Konstanz. A free pass – but not for everyone.
Because on Friday evening, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration of Baden-Württemberg announced the entry into force of a 24-hour rule. “This regulation allows citizens to move around the border area without restriction within 24 hours on both sides of the border and to pursue their everyday life across borders and without disabilities,” said the ministry.
The rule is justified because one now has tracking of infection chains and corona tests.
Not all risk cantons should be happy
However, this 24-hour rule does not apply to all cantons. Baden-Württemberg explicitly wants to continue to allow border traffic. Therefore, only people from the following cantons can make use of the rule: the cantons of Appenzell, Aargau, Basel, Basel-Landschaft, Jura, Schaffhausen, Solothurn, Sankt Gallen, Thurgau and Zurich.
Cantons that are not on the risk list anyway can still enter the country normally. The border cantons, which are also risk cantons, also come to Baden-Württemberg with the 24-hour rule.
People from the cantons of Friborg, Nidwalden, Neuchâtel, Schwyz, Uri, Waadt, Zug and Geneva also need a negative Corona test.
What a theater! Many people will have said that to themselves who went to Constance and Co. yesterday to what was supposed to be the last hamster purchase.
