Most of the foreigners reported to ZUS come from Ukraine – the president of the Social Insurance Institution, professor Gertruda Uścińska, told the Polish Press Agency. – Belarusians and Georgians are in second place – she pointed out. The president of the Department stated that when it comes to the number of foreigners working in Poland, “we are returning to the situation from before the pandemic”.
For several years, ZUS has seen an increase in the number of citizens from over 170 countries who work in Poland. At the end of 2015, the Social Insurance Institution had 185 thousand. insured foreigners. A year later, there were already 293,000, and another 16,000. newcomers set up their own business. The biggest jump was in 2017 and 2018.
“We’re going back to the pre-pandemic situation”
According to the information provided to PAP by the Social Insurance Institution, at the end of August this year, the number of foreigners registered for social security was 658,000.
– Undoubtedly, the COVID-19 epidemic had an impact on the number of working foreigners in Poland. Number of foreigners registered with ZUS at the end of August this year. was 658.2 thousand, i.e. by 30 thousand. more than in July. This means that we are returning to the situation from before the pandemic – says prof. Gertruda Uścińska.
The head of the Institute informed that the largest number of foreigners reported to ZUS come from Ukraine – 480.9 thousand. – Belarusians are in second place – 44.1 thousand. On the third – Georgians. There are 10.5 thousand of them in the Plant’s registers. – she pointed.
The largest increase in comparison to July was recorded in the case of Ukrainian citizens – by 27.2 thousand. – The number of insured foreigners is still growing dynamically and by the end of September it should already exceed the level from February, i.e. before the pandemic – comments the professor.
Citizens of more distant, often exotic countries are also registered for social security. These are people coming from, among others from Botswana, Cape Verde and the St. Thomas.

The President of ZUS pointed out that in recent months we have been dealing with a continuation of upward trends in the number of companies and insured persons, including foreigners.
– Number of payers registered with ZUS at the end of August this year. amounted to 2.78 million (plus 15,000 vs. July and plus 72,000 vs. February). In turn, the number of insured persons registered with ZUS at the end of August this year. amounted to 15.3 million. This is an increase of 31 thousand. towards July – he emphasizes. (PAP)
