Golden Shoe: Lionel Messi holds Kylian Mbappé at a distance

Kylian Mbappé will perform a feat next Friday on the lawn of Reims, if he wants to overtake Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Shoe. This trophy, rewarding the top scorer of the European Championships, seems promised to the Argentine author of a double on Sunday in Eibar, for his last game of the season.

The "Pulga" has scored 36 goals in the league this season, while Mbappé totals 32. The number 7 in Paris will have to register a quadruple to join the Argentine and share with him the trophy in December.

To date, the only French player to win the Golden Shoe is Thierry Henry in the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons with Arsenal. The last ten trophies are held by players playing in Spanish clubs (Suarez, Messi, Ronaldo and Forlan). We must go back to the 1970-1971 season and Josip Skoblar's 44 goals to OM to see a player from a Ligue 1 club win the Golden Shoe. The task promises to be complicated but not impossible for Kylian Mbappé, who has already quadrupled this season, against Lyon at Parc des Princes (5-0).
