Google Maps now displays speed limits in over 40 countries

Almost six years after Google had purchased the Waze navigation app, one of the features that was exclusive to the second now appears to be a main feature of Google Maps in more than 40 countries around the world.

Google confirmed with various technology outlets that imposing own Maps showing a speed limit overlay, as well as speed cameras and mobile speed cameras, on maps for more than 40 countries is an extension of what was previously limited to certain markets. .

One user of Reddit, for example, noticed within the last week that speed cameras are now displayed in Google Maps for the Netherlands. Similarly, a delegate took up the position to say that Spain is now showing the same thing.

It seems that much of the new functionality we have seen at Google with recent Maps seems to be focused on everything that is not, well, going from point to point. It is now a Swiss Army virtual knife with a mobile application, offering everything from the ability to share ETAs with friends and loved ones to the ability to follow updates from business subscription to a Facebook page – and communicate the same business. Due to the user reviews, photos and business data such as addresses and operating hours, the app is a function other than Yelp.

However, maps remain at the heart of the app, and Google confirmed to TechCrunch that these are all countries where Speed Camera Maps will show. The list includes Australia, Brazil, USA, Canada, UK, India, Mexico, Russia, Japan, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech, Estonia, the Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Morocco, Namibia, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Qatar , Romania, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.

Against that report, Google began to expand where speed cameras can be seen about two weeks ago in both iOS and Android. If the application is open, the speed traps will appear as icons on the road, and the speed limit will be a visible image in the lower corner of the screen.
