In Poitiers (Vienne), there is no question of using glyphosate to maintain green spaces. In the municipality, gardeners use condensed water vapor at 90 ° C to burn and kill weeds. Of the 850 hectares belonging to the town hall, the chosen plants are more in adequacy with their natural environment. Soil mulching also limits the development of unwanted weeds.
"The right plant in the right place, that is to say we must use plants that are adapted to the soil, but also to the climate", summarizes the director of green areas of the town, Noémie Jolibois. The goal of the city is clear: to integrate the plant in the urban landscape. In 2020, Poitiers wishes to open to the public 5 hectares of green spaces in addition, maintained without pesticides.
