Sad revelation from Matthew McConaughey, 50: In his new memoir, the Oscar winner reveals that he was forced for the first time as a teenager and later raped by a man.
In the autobiography “Greenlights” he writes: “When I was 15 I was forced to have sex for the first time.” His feelings of guilt afterwards, triggered by his religious upbringing, were traumatic: “I was sure that I would go to hell because I had sex before marriage. Today I have the hope that that won’t be the case. “
Dejected and raped
The father of three then reveals his next, even more traumatic experience: “I was sexually abused by a man in the back seat of a van after I was knocked down and passed out.”
McConaughey insists, however, that he does not see himself as a victim: “I have plenty of evidence that the world has conspired to make me happy. But I got quite a few scars on my rodeo ride through humanity. “
It is the first time McConaughey speaks publicly about the sexual abuse. In 2006 he took part in the Student Association for the Elimination of Rape at his ex-university, the University of Texas at Austin. He drove students safely back to the dormitory after dark. (ds / bsn)
