A group of ransomware hacked the law firm’s server and gained access to confidential information of the US president and Hollywood stars
The REvil ransomware group has promised to release 756 GB of data within a week, including the “dirty secrets” of US President Donald Trump. Attackers demand a payment of $ 42 million in Bitcoin or Monero, Pagesix reports.
“Now the repurchase amount is $ 42 million. The next person we will publish is Donald Trump. The elections are going on, and in time we found a bunch of dirty laundry … Mr. Trump, if you want to remain president, hurry up your guys. And you, voters, be sure that after such a publication you will not want to see him as president. The deadline is one week, ”the hackers wrote.
Information was obtained as a result of hacking a law firm from New York Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks. Thus, hackers gained access to contracts, personal correspondence, non-disclosure agreements and other information of stars such as Madonna, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Robert De Niro and others. The attackers encrypted the files, and the backups were deleted.
Grubman replied that they refused to negotiate with hackers despite the threats. Company representatives are confident that the payment of funds will not stop the extortionists from publishing confidential information.
A similar case occurred in the Russian Federation. Yesterday, May 14, hackers posted a darknet database of Russian car owners, it includes 129 million positions from the traffic police registry. Information is sold for 0.3 BTC, its authenticity was confirmed by an employee of a car-sharing company.
